In the summer of 2021 we invited the visitors to Chester Zoo to join us for a transformational journey imaging a more sustainable future. A series of large scale installations engaged audiences with the various waste streams at the zoo, from food and fabric waste to electronic devices and elephant poo. We also tracked the environmental impacts of the project and documented our decision making processes to help inform future projects.
We try our best to be sustainable and reduce the environmental impact of our projects and events, but we’re often paralysed by how difficult and time consuming each small decision can feel. We put sustainability at the heart of Love it for Longer and learnt new ways to increase our confidence in the decision making process and our capacity to research, make and document these choices.
Each decision throughout this project was examined closely. From the sourcing of reused/recycled materials for construction right through to transport considerations for future touring. We use visibly renewable power sources and examined the carbon footprint of any enhanced offer. Throughout we spoke to our commissioned artists and collaborators to get their thoughts on the project and their own changing attitude to sustainability as a whole.
