Yuletide 2024 at Tatton Park Gardens

As the shortest nights beckon, our celebration of winter folklore, Yuletide, is back for a second year at Tatton Park. We’re inviting audiences to fall into a world of folklore, festive tradition and rituals as the characters and creatures from winter myths and stories come to life.

At Yuletide we play with the format of a winter experience. Audiences create their own experience, freely moving between the festive gathering spaces and the glittering trail.

Wild Rumpus’s love of, and experience of, building glorious communal spaces at our festivals is brought into play in the Gathering, where live music, storytelling and fire performance bring audiences together for breath-taking moments of collective wonder.

The Glittering Trail draws audiences into the more wild, natural spaces of Tatton Park Gardens on a performative light trail, where beautifully crafted lit puppets and their puppeteers create intimate, impactful moments with audiences, in an experience balanced with giant impactful light installations and artworks.

We interpret and weave a set of winter folk tales through Yuletide, retelling and reimagining nine stories, of mischievous goblins, miraculous deer, arctic foxes and sun-stealing witches.

Audiences can buy a beautifully illustrated book, getting to know the tales as bedtime stories before they come alive before their eyes, writ large in light sculpture, new puppets, and shared by Storyteller Ian Douglas in the Gathering.
