At Wild Rumpus we’re interested in changing landscapes, and how artistic interventions can surprise audiences, and lead people to look at familiar places with fresh eyes, responding differently to the world. This autumn we are delighted to bring Super-Natural, a playful giant sculpture trail to Chester Zoo. Visitors to the zoo will come across supersized spectacular animal sculptures as they weave their way around the lush grounds of the Zoo.
Partnership
Working with Chester Zoo is always a true pleasure and represents a long standing partnership which we are proud to build upon year on year. A pioneering organisation with a passion for animals, the environment, and wider conservation; they nurture a deep understanding of how to engage visitors with the wonder of nature, and our work with them facilitates this in creative and playful ways.
This specific event is produced by Chester Zoo and inspired by ‘BEASTS’ which was written by Jess French, the visitor experience incorporates an immersive storytelling experience alongside our colourful sculptural trail.
Collaboration
This creative project has been a multi-layered and deeply rewarding collaboration between our in house team and makers from across the UK and Europe, who have brought their expertise to these ambitious insstallations.
As the sun’s rays beat down on our rural workspace this summer, a cohort of creatives gathered to design, model, weld, sculpt and paint the playful sculptures, alongside some off site commissioned work. We’re always interested in exploring and playing with sustainable materials, and the wolves, bats and owls are the result of experimentation with wood and hay.
