What is our Theory of Change?

Wild Rumpus is unsquashable in our optimism for the future, defiantly and deliberately hopeful. We are working with our collaborators, audiences, artists, volunteers, and everyone else in our ecosystem, to change the world for the better.  We articulate how we do this through our theory of change.

The change we make is that through art and culture we provide nutrients for all of the people in our ecosystem to feel agency to change the world.

These nutrients are:

  • Developing skills in radical imagination
  • Increasing the belief that a better world, cultivated by collective action, is possible.
  • Feeling more connected to nature and grounded in the world.

What do we do to create an environment rich in these nutrients?

Nutrient: Developing skills in radical imagination

  • We create moments of collective wonder, celebrating imagination
  • We invite people into rich, imaginary worlds
  • We create space for exploratory play, encouraging risk taking
  • We engage in and support experimental ways of working in our creative process and organisational design
  • We cultivate and support artistic communities – providing safe spaces to take risks as work is created

Nutrient: Increasing the belief that a better world, cultivated by collective action, is possible

  • We create seed bombs – large creative gatherings of change makers to spread positive action.
  • We build deliberate reciprocal connections to support positive action

Nutrient: Feeling more connected to nature and grounded in the world

  • We curate, create, produce from a woodland.
  • We increase access to nature by challenging barriers
  • We promote art as the gateway to nature, and nature as the gateway to art.

Our theory of change is a messy and exploratory work in progress, littered with assumptions and questions, created collaboratively by our team and advisory board. It gives us a shared language to talk about and make decisions about our work. It is an imperfect thing created with generosity and care.
